Hi Folks,\r\n\r\nI’m new to the group and live in South Wales UK and recently purchased my first Wheel Horse a Commando 8 4 speed gearbox 3 forward and 1 reverse.\r\nAmazing tractor although she is showing signs of her age and needs some TLC especially to the deck which I’m currently working on.\r\nI do have a problem which I hope those of you with more knowledge of electrics than me can help. The Dynostarter starts the engine fine, but I have found there is no charge going into the battery, I am assuming this is to do with the voltage regulator which sits on top of the Dynostart.\r\nIs a fault in the regulator the most likely cause and if yes, is there a way to test it and repair or is it a case of buy a new one, or should I be looking elsewhere for the problem.\r\nAny help would be much appreciated.\r\n\r\nAll the best,\r\nIan. |

Check this document for assistance. Should get you going again. Try cleaning the points under the cover first. Be sure to remove the starter battery from the engine/tractor BEFORE doing so (VERY IMPORTANT STEP).\r\n\r\nhttp://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/Engines/1R-115.pdf |

Hi Mike,\r\n\r\nThanks for the link and help. I have since found the problem is with the Dynastart itself not pushing out any charge at all and I can’t find out why, it checked out OK when I put a meter on it. \r\nI took it to a auto electrical repair shop and they tested it, ran it and like me found the starter side OK but charge not a thing and neither could they tell me why, as they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Clearly there is a problem but what is another matter.\r\nSo I in the end I found a replacement on eBay and am awaiting its arrival, as in 44 years since it was made, you can bet that Dynastart has turned a few billion times, so perhaps its time it was replaced.\r\nOnly one problem, what you guys pay in dollars for a Dynastart we pay in the UK the same in pounds and with the exchange rate, well I’m sure you get the idea, its mega bucks.\r\nOther than that she runs well having rebuilt the deck, couldn’t find any new blades shafts for the RM 366 deck, so made some in my workshop, runs much better now. \r\nAny one know of a source for the gears that drive the blades as mine are showing signs of wear.\r\n\r\nAll the best,\r\nIan. |
