Engine Refresh Begins

From the time of purchase to today (6/1/2015), this machine has been my daily worker. Though I wanted to restore this machine, it and I had work to do. So until the dipper on the end of the connecting rod parted company, and the engine "threw a rod", after 43 years this machine will see better days.

rnA complete dis-assembly of the engine, and measuring for wear, it was determined that the cam and valves were in perfect condition, the cylinder bore was within original spec and only the connecting rod had shattered. The crankshaft bearing was smeared with aluminum which an overnight soak in Muriatic Acid cleaned the aluminum off without issue. The crank journal was miked and found to be within specification as well, so a new crankshaft was not needed. All that was required to get this engine refreshed is a standard rebuild kit (standard everything) and put it all back together. While I was at it I decided to paint the block and sandblast and paint all the tins. New decals will be installed once the tractor is completely re-assembled.
