1983 GT1642 Mower deck belt size

Hello I inheirited a Wheelhorse GT1642 Workhorse. The serial and model number are faded off. It has a 16 hp briggs twin engine . It does not have the drive belt for the mower deck. How does one find out what size belt it needs. Oh and buy the way I just joined this site and so far it looks to be very useful. Thanks in advance Dave

More times than not the correct belt depends on which deck you have installed. Do you know what model deck, or at least the width of cut? Also, if you have an old long belt laying around, you can use it to measure the correct length. Simply cut the belt, wrap it around all the pulleys, and mark where they overlap. Measure the distance between the mark and the end and subtract an inch to make up for the tensioner.

\r\n\r\nIf the mower deck hasn't been replaced, the mule drive belt (Engine to deck) is PN# 94-2501, and the belt that turns the spindles is PN# 6738.
